"You're not just pretty faces then!"
This was the stunned response from the management of notorious artrockers Selfish C*nt after taking a gamble on throwing upstart young band Neon Kicks into the ring with an opening spot for their legendary raucous live show.
But ever since two-girl-two-boy electro-punks Neon Kicks started gigging in Summer 2007 in their university town of Durham, everyone lucky enough to catch this electrifying foursome's winning combination of irresistible beats, monumental basslines and searing synths - topped off with one of the most engagingly soulful new voices in rock music - knew that this was a band on to something special. Impossible to pigeonhole, Neon Kicks have just one agenda: to get crowds moving.
Accordingly, 2008 saw them become the hottest property in the town's fledgling music scene, rocking shows with the likes of Bloc Party, ISK & The Tigerpicks, gaining regular airplay and rave reviews from Huw Stevens, Steve Lamacq and Tom Robinson on the BBC Radio network, and setting off on a mission to take their incendiary live shows to audiences across the UK.
